Mindthis founder Shaaz Nasir has been selected once again to attend the One Young World Conference, this time in Pittsburgh, USA from Oct 17 – 22, 2012. Last year he was chosen to attend the OYW in Zurich where he showcased the concept of Mindthis to hundreds of young professionals from around the world.
One Young World was founded in 2009 by David Jones and Kate Robertson. It is an organization that gathers together young leaders from around the world, helping them make lasting connections and formulate solutions to pressing issues that the world faces. Delegates were guided by a line-up of Counsellors that included Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, Bob Geldof, Kofi Annan, Professor Muhammad Yunus, HKH Prince Haakon of Norway, Roger Federer, Wael Ghonim, and others.
In Zurich, Shaaz’s goal was to conduct market research on what Generation Y would demand from an online magazine that caters to their needs. Considering that no youth-dominated event outside the Olympic Games brings together more countries than One Young World, it was the perfect opportunity to receive feedback and build strategic partnerships for Mindthis.
This time, Shaaz’s goal in Pittsburgh is to test the current build of Mindthis with established business leaders, politicians, and above all, members of Generation Y. With tens of thousands of readers in over 175 countries, he plans to share Mindthis resources with other young professionals in mutually beneficial partnerships.
Shaaz will be attending workshops and lectures given by founders such as Jimmy Wales (Wikipedia), Pete Cashmore (Mashable), and Jack Dorsey (Twitter) to gain their insights on the future direction of the internet. Studying their business models and organizational structure will allow Shaaz to further enhance Mindthis from both in terms of content and organizational structure.
Based on the success of Mindthis, One Young World has chosen Shaaz to be chairman of the official debate on Government Censorship in the age of the Internet. He will also be taking part in grassroots level discussions on the latest pressing issues in the finance world such as QE3, basel III, eurobonds, microloans, Islamic banking, declining growth in the emerging economies and European austerity.
“It’s an honor to be part of such an important moment in Generation Y’s History. From Bill Clinton to Pete Cashmore, OYW is about connecting the old with the new and empowering everyone to have frank and much needed conversations on world issues. It’s like speed dating but in the context of young professionals trying to find the right people for their respective global projects. ” – Shaaz Nasir
